Worth the Wait

I’m so lucky that I get to meet so many wonderful people at the hospital that I can call friends! I met Reid at work as she was doing her residency rotation through my unit. Can I just say that I love her to pieces! She is so precious. I feel like she always has a positive attitude and truly cares about the work she is doing. When Reid told me that her and Dan were expecting, I was SO happy for them! I got to do their maternity session at the Botanical Gardens. I mean, who gets to look like this when they are pregnant… seriously, GORGEOUS!!!

It was a beautiful day at the Gardens. I love it when the Dad is excited about the whole photography process as well. Not one single complaint from Dan! He just rolled with it no matter what I asked them to do!! You can tell by these pictures that these two are perfect together! They have been married for 6 years and they were so excited to start their little family.

Every birth story is different and unique. Every single one is a miracle.  I am so thankful that Reid shared her journey with me. I can deeply relate to all of it. I used to be closed off and not talk about the big moster in the room called INFERTILITY. Now I am an open book and hope to use my story to help others. My husband and I went through 5 years of infertility, 6 rounds of IUI, 2 surgeries for me, countless rounds of drugs, IVF and a miscarriage. The pain and heartache in the waiting is something that will stay with me always. The way my faith grew during this time is something that can only come from the Lord. On the other side of the pain came my greatest blessings... my twin girls. April is National Infertility Awareness month, and I hope to share more of my story with you then. The road was not easy, but I promise YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

The Burks Family had a very long road to the miracle of baby Logan. Infertility is something that many couples face but they don’t always openly discuss. They struggled with infertility for 2.5 years before welcoming him. Their journey included a miscarriage, multiple IUIs, 2 rounds of IVF and one failed embryo transfer. Their hearts were broken many times while trying to start a family, but they never gave up. Miraculously they got pregnant on their own in-between fertility treatments.  Dan always told Reid it would probably happen when they least expected it! Now, they have the most incredible gift and blessing.

Logan Daniel Burks was born on January 7th and weighed in at whopping 6 lbs and 8 oz. He is the tiniest little peanut!! This sweet nugget slept right through the session! Reid’s parents were in town and came long for the photo session. You could see the pride all over their face as they watched their sweet grandchild do his very first photo session! I love seeing the excitement on families faces as they watch the whole newborn photo session process!

Reid and Dan loved the thought of using a family name. Logan’s middle name is Daniel which is both his dad and maternal grandfathers name. I think it is so special to carry on the tradition of using family names.

Reid had a very long 36-hour birthing process! But she had a great epidural, can I get an AMEN! She was able to be fully present and enjoy the process as she welcomed her sweet baby boy! Mom and Dad are trying to find their new rhythm as a family of 3, well, actually 4 if you count their sweet doggie who is definitely going through an adjustment period! Mom and Dad are trying to sort through what each little cry and squirm means. For now, he mostly likes to eat, cuddle, sleep and repeat!

The family is excited to take a trip to Maui this year, which is a special place to Mom and Dad because they went there on their honeymoon and babymoon! All the well wishes for traveling 13+ hours with a baby!! Ha! The proud parents hope that little Logan finds happiness in whatever he does. They hope he is passionate and can find things that bring him joy and confidence. Reid and Dan, I know this is only the beginning but you two are nailing it so far and I am so thankful to be able to share your story. I can’t wait to watch Logan’s story unfold. He was definitely worth the wait!
