This group of girls are nothing short of amazing. Their drive, dedication and determination are evident. If you ever have the opportunity to watch them play, don’t miss it! I vividly remember walking up to the softball field in Springville last year to take our then 4-year-old twins to their first softball evaluation. I looked at my husband and we both started laughing... “Surely we are on the wrong field???” I remember thinking these girls were beasts! They were throwing the ball from third base to first base, catching pop fly’s, and working together with such harmony. Did I mention hitting homeruns frequently?! Well… little did we know at the time, but Springville is producing ROCKSTAR girl athletes. I am sure that these parents can attest that these athletes are learning far more than just how to play softball. I can tell you that being around these girls has definitely elevated my girls’ skill-set and I can see the difference on the field already as we get ready for our second Fall season!
Tiger City Softball consists of 10 girls that are in 1st and 2nd grade. They are from Springville and the surrounding areas of Trussville, Moody, and Pell City. The team is led by head coaches Eric and Alisha Johnson, with assistant coaches Matt Bunt, Clint Vaughn, Jady Hubbard and Brad Alexander. Most of these girls have already played 3 or 4 seasons of softball together in the local rec league. They have already accomplished so much in the softball world including five out of the ten girls being on the undefeated USA Softball of Alabama 6U Recreation State Championship team this past Spring! There is cause for celebration as this is the inaugural season for travel team Tiger City Softball!
You can find Saylor, Madeline, Harper, Ella Jane, Caroline, Sophia, Analee, Marlee, Hendrix and Allie working hard on the softball field 2 days a week for practice. They will be playing all over Alabama this Fall and they believe that with hard work and effort, you can achieve anything.
These girls have a host of family members and friends that support them on this journey! I can tell you that their Moms and Dads are the biggest cheerleaders! When one of the team Moms came to me with the idea to do a softball princess themed photo session I could not wait to get started! It was so fun to see these girls dolled up in their fancy dresses and crowns, all while sporting their cleats and holding on to their softballs, bats, and gloves.
You often hear people say things like “I hate that my kids have to grow up in the world we are living in today”. To that I say, “no way”. I am happy that my girls get to grow up in a world that embraces girl athletes more than ever before. I’m glad that my girls get to grow up in a world that encourages young girls to achieve any and all things that their heart desires. I’m glad that my family lives in a community that raises champions both on and off the field. If you have a daughter, know that she was born at this specific time for a specific reason .
“They call this a softball, but really, it’s a yellow threaded gift from God, revealed to each young lady that dares to play the game, somewhere between her heart and hard-work, she will find the thread that will unwrap the talent she didn’t know she had, develop the character she will always need, and transform her teammates into everlasting friends”
